MAKING VIDEO FOR VIDEO'S SAKE
In documentary shoots, we are at the mercy of fortune. All errors must be either accepted into the product, or corrected in post-production, often by awkward and time-consuming acts of deletion and imaginitive heroics.
Dedicated video production, (like its audio counterpart and subcomponent,) means working, sometimes in a studio, or on-location, to realize an intention, often with the use of scripts and planning. If an error is noticed, the Director asks for a a re-take of the flubbed portion. Sometimes in an interview, thought "crystallizes," turning a flow-of-consciousness rant into an eloquent statement. The speaker can also request a re-take...a second chance at eloquence. Taking breaks to apply shine-reducing face powder, or for a drink of water are now manageable.
A studio is easy to set up, and on-location shoots sometimes require more planning.
