of Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall
Shachaf is an Israeli Anarchist whose activism began at age twelve.
Today his activism for social change focuses on opposition to Israeli apartheid and the conveniently moveable "annexation wall" (quoting Chomsky,) using street media and other non-violent tactics against an increasingly fascistic (quoting Polakov) religious fanatical expansion.
Dr. Farsakh holds a Ph.D. from the University of London, and an M.Phil from Cambridge University. her areas of expertise are Middle East Politics, Comparative Politics, and the Politics of the Arab Israeli Conflict.
She has worked with a number of international organizations, including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris and the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute in Ramallah. She also undertook a post-doctoral research at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard. She has published various articles and studies on issues related to the Palestinian economy and the Oslo Process, international migration and regional integration. She is author of Palestinian Labor Migration, (Routledge.) She won the Peace and Justice Award from the Cambridge Peace Commission, in Cambridge Mass. (source)

He is an Institute Professor emeritus and professor emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Chomsky is well known in the academic and scientific community as the father of modern linguistics. Since the 1960s, he has become known more widely as a political dissident, an anarchist, and a libertarian socialist intellectual. (Wikipedia)
Nancy Murray (Moderator)
Program Moderator Dr. Nancy Murray is President of the Gaza Mental Health Foundation, and serves on the boards of numerous organizations.
Ms. Murray has traveled several times to Palestine through Israel. (Until very recently, no person had entered the Port of Gaza in over forty years; ...a story that's on the 492 Cafe editing table right now!)
Nancy Murray documents popular dissent against John Ashcroft's "Patriot Act Tour" in Boston, where thousands voiced their outrage as Ashcroft pitched his poison to "law enforcement" ...behind closed doors, of course! No public record of Ashcroft's words to the gun-holders exists.
About the Recordings
Event Media Management
About the Edits
In the last year, 492 Cafe has managed media at events, helping to raise tens of thousands of dollars for progressive causes in and around Boston. Tonight's services were provided free of charge and in solidarity with the countless victims of the criminal colonial expansionist US/Israeli occupation.
492 Cafe managed sound for this fund raiser, which played to a full house at First Parish Unitarian. Parts of the Church sound system date to the 1960's, offering interesting technical challenges.
We stress the importance of movement-building through effective media management.
The speeches are edited for intelligibility and ambient noise reduction. (including a post-production battle against the kind gentleman who coughed dozens of times during Professor Chomsky's presentation alone, thank you very much good sir, I hope you were not contagious and that you contributed generously to the charity effort.)
There are about one thousand edits total throughout the program. Audience responses, (applause and laughter) taken from separate microphones, are selectively applied.
Editor and Chief Engineer Freeman Z uses the ProTools LE digital editing system, applying many of the same automated multitrack methods used in his music production.
Dynamics are modulated using programmed automation to reduce room reflections (echoes.)
